DENMARK Official Mint - Coin set 2003

The 2003 coin set includes two thematic coins : the 20 Kroner coin with Århus City Hall and the 20 Kroner coin with the Dragon spire of the old Copenhagen Stock Exchange, as well as the 20 Kroner coin with the newly designed reverse.
This year´s coin set also includes the 1 Krone, 50 Øre and 25 Øre coins.

Aarhus City Hall Tower has been chosen for the first coin in the new thematic coins series with towers as the common theme. It was issued to mark the 100th anniversary of the architect Arne Jacobsen, who also designed the Danmarks Nationalbank building. The Aarhus Tower is significant and represents the modernist style characteristic of Arne Jacobsen's architecture.

On 1 May 2003 the second coin was put into circulation. The motif is the characteristic spire of the old Copenhagen Stock Exchange, Børsen, with four intertwined dragon tails. Børsen was built in 1618-1624 by King Christian IV to mark Copenhagen's increasing importance as a trading centre. The dragon tails were said to protect Børsen against fire and foe.
